Details

The NUPDRS4 CRF has remained largely consistent between PPMI 1.0 and 2.0. A few differences have been noted below.

Calculation Inputs

Three variables in the NUPDRS4 section require some sort of calculation (total time spent or percent time with a symptom). These variables include NP4DYSTN, NP4OFF, and NP4WDYSK. In the MDS-UPDRS exam, for each of these questions there are three subquestions to help the investigator calculate the correct time/percentage, which then gets translated to a 0-4 scale (i.e., normal, slight, mild, etc.). In PPMI 1.0, only the resulting 0-4 score was recorded for each of these variables. In PPMI 2.0, all three subquestions have been added to the data dictionary.

ITM_TYPE

ITM_TYPE has changed for nearly every variable because in PPMI 2.0 the “Unable to Rate” option is captured in the list of possible values as “UR”, while in PPMI 1.0 only the numeric option 0-4 were listed.

Codebook

Besides NUPRSOURC, no variables from the NUPDRS1 table were included in PPMI 1.0’s Code List. In 2.0, all variables from the NUPDRS1 table have been added to the codebook to document what the different codes mean for each question. The DIFF REASON of “DESIGN” indicates that these were added to the code book as a result of the design of the CRF in the EDC, which includes both numeric and text options.

NP4TOT

The total score is the sum of NP4WDYSK, NP4DYSKI, NP4OFF, NP4FLCTI, NP4FLCTX, and NP4DYSTN. It will not be computed if there are missing values in any of these columns.
